Governing Body

Our School Governing Body

Governors are volunteers who ensure schools have a clear vision and strategic direction, hold the senior leadership to account for the educational performance of pupils and oversee the financial performance of their schools.   The current Moorland Federation, comprising 8 schools, was formed on 1 September 2024 and has one overarching Board of Governors.

Moorland Federation Board of Governors

The instrument of government states that the governing body shall consist of:

2 Parent Governors
1 Local Authority Governor
1 Staff Governor
1 Executive Headteacher
2 Co-opted Governors
7 Foundation Governors (6 appointed by the church, 1 by Ellsworth Trust)

The board is a strategic decision making partner to the leadership of our schools, with dedication to their fundamental roles.

As set out in the Governance Handbook, all boards have these three core functions:

1. Ensure the clarity of the vision, ethos and strategic direction.

2. Hold the executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the school(s) and its pupils and the effective and efficient performance management of staff.

3. Oversee the financial performance of the school(s) and making sure that its money is well spent.
